Alice Washburn

At age 49 Washburn (1870-1958), a former school principal, designed and built the first house of over ninety Colonial Revival houses in Westville (New Haven), Cheshire but mostly in the Hamden. She was a self-taught architect whose commitment to style, elegance and quality is represented by each of the houses she produced and recognized today by two annual honors awarded in her name by the Connecticut AIA.
