Winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, Wilder (1897-1975) lived in Hamden on and off from 1929 until his death. His first writing success was the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey for which he won a Pulitzer. His plays Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth won the others. His play The Matchmaker was the basis for the Broadway musical Hello Dolly!
