Family Entertainment Series Includes Puppets,
Jugglers, Magic and Improv for Kids

The Hamden Arts Commission will present a special, first-class lineup of talent in its 2009-2010
Saturday Afternoon Family Entertainment Series. The series, which offers an exciting array of programs for
parents and children to share, will feature magic and puppetry, juggling and improvisation for kids.
The series introduces some world talent to Hamden. Admission is $2 for children; $3 for adults.

 
Saturday, October 3: The Airborne Jugglers: CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

October 3, the season opens with The Airborne Jugglers, a duo that offers "juggling with a comedy twist." Appearing here for the first time, this world-traveled duo has performed for 20 years: in Japan, Europe and in 39 of 50 U.S states. They have entertained at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and for U.S. military troops around the world. Juggling is combined with lively music, audience participation and comic twists.



Saturday, November 7: Improv 4 Kids

November 7 will feature Improv 4 Kids, a professional theatre program from New York dedicated to entertaining young audiences through creative comedy arts. This show is a high-energy, high-impact performance where actors present a series of original characters, stories, skits, songs and dances based on audience suggestions. Lots of audience volunteers take the stage.



 

Saturday, December 5: Winter Wonderland

 

December 5, 3 pm, the musical theatre group, Flying Ship Productions will present a musical holiday adventure, "Winter Wonderland." A modern-day Alice journeys to Wonderland in search of the real meaning of the holiday season and meets the zany characters from Lewis Carroll’s famous story. Four professional actors present an elaborate production with lavish scenery, colorful costumes, exuberant dancing and a joyful score. .

 

January 9, 2010, the popular Pumpernickel Puppets will present "The Frog Prince" and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff." The nationally-known puppeteer will perform humorous adaptations of the two classic fairy tales, with a cast of colorful puppet characters, lively sound effects and fast-paced scripts. A demonstration follows each performance, giving the audience insight into what happens behind the scenes.

February 6, magician Jeff Horton



  Magician Jeff Horton will make his debut in the series. For over 20 years, the Connecticut-based magician has been fine tuning his repertoire to develop routines that dazzle and amuse. Combining mystery, music, comedy and audience participation, Horton’s show also includes appearances of his pet dove and a magic bunny.


The finale on March 6
will feature the Philadelphia-based but nationally touring Tuckers’ Tales Puppet Theatre in "Three Bears." Four stories about three bears are in this presentation: Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Why Bear Sleeps All Winter, Bringin’ Home the Bacon and The Two Fellows and the Bear.


The programs will be held at one o’clock except for the December show,
which will be at 3 pm, as part of Hamden’s Silverbells celebration.
They will be held in the handicapped-accessible Thornton Wilder Hall,
Miller Cultural Complex, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden.
Tickets are available at the door only.
