Retired director of theatre at Hamden High School (30 years), Schlusberg directed twenty Connecticut Drama Association award winning plays in twenty-three years. His distinguished career in educational theatre has sought to “help students discover themselves through the theatre.” Now at The Foote School in New Haven, he is the author of Letters From the Prophets: A Theatre Teacher‘s MemoirLessons for the Stage: An Approach to Acting, and Who Paints the Sky? Among his career honors are the John C. Barner National Theatre Teacher of the Year Award (1988), the Arts Council of New Haven‘s Award for Excellence and Mastery in Educational Theatre (1996) and the Long Wharf Theatre‘s first Mary Hunter Wolf Award for Excellence in the Art and Teaching of Theatre (1996), and Hamden‘s Teacher of the Year.
